The Environmental Artifacts of Embodied Mind

In this world, I would like to propose an institution that strives to embody what spirituality should be: the first institute for Embodied Mind: Embodied Mind as an institution. Embodied in this sense means that consciousness lives outside of the body, outside the physical brain and is instead embodied in the Environment. This Environmental Mind thinks with the objects and locations that we experience as we pass through or occupy spatially, so that matter becomes an instrument of thought and thinking, much as an artist employs a pencil and paper to doodle on when creating a picture. The subjective human is but a mobile neuron, passing through this psychic milieu, witnessing the experience of cognition.
Since the Industrial Revolution, modernity has proceeded to increasingly separate humans from their nature. But in the past century, with the development of the Internet and other technological advances, our connection with nature has been re-embodied. And today, we are faced with an ecological catastrophe–an unprecedented global and community-level crisis.
In order to understand how deep these connections go and how we might find solutions for this crisis, the philosophic thinker, Günther puts forth a new idea of what a human being is. Drawing on psychoanalysis, speculative realism, cognitive science, neuroscience and philosophy of mind (among other disciplines), Günther suggests that what a human being is can be understood through various aspects–cognitive faculties and bodily drives, imagination and creativity–that are always interconnected and implicated in one another’s functioning. These artifacts of biological structure function similarly to the park benches and buildings of the Environmentally embodied Mind, which all work together instrumentally to express the conscious rationality of Cosmic Order. Health then, is a function of bio-coherence taking place in the milieu of an organism. Ecosystems are energy-exchange coherences taking place in a healthy Environment. Cities are coherent polities expressing Social order and Institutions are Egregori expressing collective coherence.
